MERIDIAN, MS (May 7, 2017) - Josh Lampley is now a two-time Mississippi Mid-Amateur winner. After beginning the final round at Northwood Country Club ahead by four shots, Lampley eased himself to the title with an even-par 71 to finish 5-under.
Lampley, who won the title in 2015 as well, played a steady round of golf with two birdies and two bogeys. It appeared that after an opening hole bogey that Lampley could leak some oil during the final round but that proved not to be the case as he birdied the 6th and 14th holes before dropping one more shot on the 17th.
Steve Wilson finished second at 2-under following consecutive 1-under 70's, Eddie Brescher III was third at 1-under, in fourth it was Edward Wall at 4-over while in fifth came Ben Snow at 5-over.
36-HOLE RECAP
2015 champion Josh Lampley is 5-under and with one left at the Mississippi Mid-Amateur he will carry a four shot lead into the final round at Northwood Country Club.
Lampley has combined rounds of 67-70 thus far and he will now be seeking a wire-to-wire triumph. For much of his second round 1-under 71 Lampley struggled to get anything going and through 15 holes he was 2-over. However, the struggles early in the round would all melt away with his strong finish that included and eagle on the par-5 16th and a 17th hole birdie.
Steve Wilson is the only other player under-par at 1-under and he is in second place, last years 36-hole leader Eddie Brescher III is third at 1-over, sitting at 3-over in fourth is George Follett while the 4-over Edward Wall is fifth.
